UK Christmas Number 1 Singles – From Slade to Mr Blobby!

09/12/2016

Christmas MusicThe Christmas decorations are up, you’ve enjoyed a mince pie or 2, or more if you’re anything like Francis, our Cegos UK MD!

You’ve probably bought the tree, or perhaps cut down your own if you were as lucky as some of the Cegos UK team. Last week the team joined a wildlife conservation event run by the Surrey Wildlife Trust. A great day for an even greater cause.

We’re sure you’ve heard a few Christmas songs too.

Here in the office at Cegos UK, we've been talking about our all-time favourite Christmas songs. From ‘Fairytale of New York’, to Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know it’s Christmas?’ we all have that one song that gets us in the Christmas Spirit.

But how many of you know what the Christmas Number 1 was the year you were born?

Since the UK Singles Chart began in 1952 there have been 64 number 1s. The track on the top at Christmas continues to be hotly contested, with last year’s number 1 selling twice as many as any other #1 in the year.

So, it’s got very little to do with Learning and Development, but it may help you win the post-Christmas dinner Trivial Pursuit. Check out the songs that made the number 1 spot since 1952-2000. Some you may recognise and some you’d rather not be reminded of!

Disclaimer alert; the Christmas Number 1 does not always match with the dates elsewhere as they refer to 'week ending' chart dates. These are the actual Christmas Number 1s on the big day!
