Management Essentials

Line managers are on the front line when leading your team towards a winning performance. Yet many line managers lack the basic skills needed to motivate and lead a team effectively, often because they haven’t had sufficient training to do so.

The Management Essentials programme is designed for line managers who have taken on the role within the last 12 months or as an excellent refresher course for established line managers.

What’s in the programme?

Using a blended approach the programme includes access to online learning resources, such as e-learning, that support participants preparation for the live learning event and applying the learning back at work.

A crucial part of the programme is the role of the participants’ line manager. Line managers will be given a briefing pack and will hold 1-to-1 meetings with their participant to understand how their learning can be applied back at work.

The programme covers the whole gamut of the line manager experience, from learning how to develop your team to managing stakeholders and setting SMART objectives. You’ll gain a unique insight into your role as a manager, creating clarity of purpose while making sure your communication skills are spot on.

Live Learning Event

Day 1

  • What makes someone join, stay and leave an organisation
  • Role of a Manager (role clarity, setting objectives, resource planning, effective communication)
  • Coaching Partners/Trios
  • Leading the Team (case study part 1 preparation)
  • Leading the Team (case study part 1 presentations and debrief)
  • Situational Leadership®II Concepts

Day 2

  • Coaching pairs/trios to reflect on day 1 and begin to formulate action plan
  • Feedback principles and AID
  • Giving feedback – case study part 2
  • Giving feedback own specific situations
  • Coaching questioning and listening and GROW
  • Coaching partners/trios using GROW
  • Developing others
  • Delegating and empowering others
  • Coaching partners/trios to practice/rehearse delegation

After the live learning event

Online 360 – Cegos have an established set of management questionnaires that will be used for the online 360 questionnaire.

Post workshop activities application – In addition to your own individual action plans you will receive a set of recommended actions that you should take back at the workplace.

End of programme

 

What results can I expect?

By the end of the training programme, participants will fully understand the role of a line manager and the principles of leading individuals and teams. They will have mastered the art of motivating people so that it has a positive effect on performance, engagement and retention.

They will also be armed with different management styles and know how to adapt them to different situations.

Importantly, they will have much more confidence. It’s a confidence that will help them give constructive feedback, coach other individuals, and delegate effectively.

During the programme, participants will put together a personal development plan that sets them firmly on the route to being a powerful, persuasive and highly sought-after line manager.

Participant line managers will play an important role in their development. They will have regular 1-to-1 meetings with them to plan how they will apply their learning and identify any support needed. After attending the programme they will both complete a ‘progress survey’ that will assess whether the participant has effectively transferred the learning into their work and if it has had an impact on the business.
